We rebuilt door-to-door targeting around an analysis of more than 350,000 real door-to-door leads. The clearest finding: which market a team works was the single biggest driver of appointment rates in that data — a bigger swing than rep skill or season.
Territory is the highest-leverage decision in door-to-door sales, and most teams still make it on folklore — last year’s turf, a manager’s hunch, a random subdivision. NeuroKnock replaces the folklore with math.

Home value band
The single largest input — and it points down-market, not up. Full credit at roughly $300k and below, tapering to nothing by about $650k.
Owner occupancy
Owners answer the door with the authority to say yes. A renter can’t agree to a new roof no matter how good the pitch is.
Permit activity
Permits pulled in the last 24 months. A street that’s already spending money on itself keeps spending.
Residency length
How long households stay put. Stability tracks with willingness to invest in the house.
Home age
Construction-era band. Used only as a tie-breaker for which pitch is relevant on that street.

The counterintuitive part
It aims down-market, not up
The first version of this model had a $600k home-value floor and a $125k income floor, built on the assumption almost every door-to-door manager starts with: knock the expensive neighborhoods. Analysing more than 350,000 real door-to-door leads showed that assumption was backwards. Both floors were deleted.
The reason turned out to be structural, and it is the most useful thing we know about this business. A setter at the door isn’t selling anything — they’re booking an appointment. A separate closer, usually with a credit check behind them, decides whether that becomes a sale. So when you score neighborhoods against sales, the signal washes out and the area looks like it barely matters. Score against appointments booked and it sharpens immediately. NeuroKnock predicts the thing the door actually controls.

How the model is kept honest
Some data is collected and deliberately never scored
Education levels are pulled and logged so the model can be checked for drift, and carry a scoring weight of exactly zero. A signal either earns its way into the score against real outcomes or it stays outside it.
Weights are priors, not opinions
Every weight starts as a hypothesis and gets refined against what actually happened on real blitzes. The formula never gets re-tuned to make a market look better than it is — that rule is the whole reason the rankings are worth anything.
Every recommendation is on the record
Each score writes its inputs and the exact scoring configuration in force at the time to an audit log. So “why did it send us there?” still has a documented answer six months later, not a guess.

How does NeuroKnock decide where reps should knock?
Two layers. What data does NeuroKnock use?
Public property and economic data — primarily US Census American Community Survey figures (home values, owner occupancy, residency length, home age) and municipal building-permit records pulled per metro. Data is fetched lazily: nothing is ingested until you declare a blitz, and the block-group records for that blitz are then shared across every rep working it rather than re-fetched per person.
Why does it favour lower-priced neighborhoods?
Because the data said to. The model originally carried a $600k home-value floor and a $125k income floor, on the standard assumption that expensive neighborhoods are the ones worth knocking. An analysis of more than 350,000 real door-to-door leads showed the opposite, and both floors were removed. The structural reason: a setter at the door books an appointment, while a separate closer and usually a credit check decide whether it becomes a sale. Scored against sales, area barely registers. Scored against appointments booked, it sharpens immediately — so that is what NeuroKnock predicts.
How do you know the scoring weights are right?
They start as priors and get corrected by field results. Every blitz feeds real door outcomes back into an analysis pass that refines the weights, and there is a hard internal rule against re-tuning the formula to make a market look more attractive than it is. Some data is carried without being scored at all — education levels are logged purely as a drift diagnostic at a weight of zero — because a signal either earns its place against real outcomes or it stays out of the score.
Does it work without cell service?
Yes — that constraint shaped the whole product. NeuroKnock is offline-first: the app caches your entire blitz (scores, boundaries, and map tiles) on the rep’s phone before they head out. Door results logged with no signal queue on the device and sync automatically when coverage returns.
What does a rep actually see?
A glance-and-go “Where Next” card built for someone standing on a sidewalk in the sun: the strength of the block they’re on, a plain-language arrow to the next strong block, and a WALK ME THERE button.
